Established in 1993, the International HIV/AIDS Alliance is the European Union’s largest HIV/AIDS-focused development organisation. The Alliance works around the globe to provide technical and financial support to strengthen community organisational response to AIDS. Working in 40 countries, the Alliance’s programmes promote safe behaviour, harm reduction for drug users, distribution of condoms, counselling and testing, access to infections diagnosis and treatment and education. The Chinese office of the Alliance opened in 2003 in the province of Yunnan to combat the spread of the illness through prevention, education and treatment.
