The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) is an international aid agency that works with communities and governments in 157 countries for the survival, development and protection of children worldwide. In Azerbaijan, UNICEF works with the government, with national/local organisations, with media and with children and young people to: lobby for effective policies to benefit children; support innovative programmes to care for and protect children and to ensure that the voices of children and young people are heard. It’s activities include providing vitamin A supplements and campaigning for salt iodization to remedy deficiency disorders, making hospital reforms, and training health personnel.
