The Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) is Switzerland’s international cooperation agency that is responsible for the overall coordination of Switzerland’s overseas relief and development activities. The work of SDC focuses on three main areas: taking direct action and supporting the programmes of multilateral organisations in development projects; cooperating with governments and organisations in Eastern Europe to help ease the transition to a market economy; and overseeing the work of the Swiss Humanitarian Aid Unit (SHA), which provides humanitarian aid in the wake of natural disasters and during emergencies arising from violent conflicts.
