World Health Organization (WHO)

Unverified non-profit organisation

The World Health Organization (WHO), the United Nations specialised agency for health, aims to coordinate international health activities and to help governments improve health services. Health is defined in WHO’s Constitution as state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being, not merely absence of disease or infirmity. The WHO website includes links to health topics, WHO projects, and a library database of all WHO publications, as well as other general information and news topics.

The WHO also plays an very important part in attempting to reach the MDGs. The MDGs are inter-dependent; all the MDG influence health, and health influences all the MDGs. For example, better health enables children to learn and adults to earn. Gender equality is essential to the achievement of better health. Reducing poverty, hunger and environmental degradation positively influences, but also depends on, better health.
