Earthquake alert service has potential for future disaster preparedness

The World Agency for Planetary Monitoring and Earthquake Risk Reduction (WAPMERR) together with Swiss Seismological Service has developed an earthquake alert service available to interested agencies and individuals.

The WAPMERR alert service is free and available worldwide by email or telephone. Information regarding casualties and expected damage as determined by an expert is distributed within thirty minutes of any strong earthquake. This allows rapid disaster response by agencies and governments, minimising the impact of the disaster. WAPMERR is also working on analysing data to access scenarios for future earthquake casualties and damage.
