Southern Water supports WaterAid in a variety of ways

Southern Water, its employees and customers have supported WaterAid since 1981, promoting WaterAid through organising and taking part in fundraising events and making donations.

Southern Water have been a long standing supporter of the International charity WaterAid which works with people in 26 countries in Africa, Asia and the Pacific region to improve their quality of life through lasting improvements to water, sanitation and hygiene education using local skills and practical, sustainable technologies. Southern Water employees support WaterAid in a variety of ways from taking part in the monthly WaterAid lottery to visiting community groups and schools to spread the word about our work.

Thanks to the dedication and enthusiasm of the Southern WaterAid Committee and support from volunteers across the company, many successful fundraising events have been organised over the years. Between 2007 and 2011 Southern Water has donated more than £630000 to WaterAid , touching the lives of more than 42000 of the world’s poorest people living without access to safe water.

Southern Water hosted a fifth charity ball in June 2011, with a ‘Masquerade’ theme and funds were raised through table sponsorship, raffle ticket sales, an auction hosted by renowned comedian Stewart Francis and a draw carried out by Olympic gold medallist Marlon Devonish MBE. A further £11,000 was also raised in July, 2011, when 144 golfers took part in the Southern Water annual WaterAid golf event which has been running since 2000.

SouthernWater is hugely passionate about its involvement with WaterAid and its employees that have made an outstanding contribution over the years have had their efforts recognised. In October 2008, Kevin Buck, Southern Water Communications Officer and current chairman of the Southern Water WaterAid Committee, received an MBE at Buckingham Palace for his services to the charity
