Catastrophe insurance bond for Taiwan

The Taiwan Residential Earthquake Insurance Program (TREIF) provides basic insurance to residents of Taiwan, that is specifically tailored to the earthquake risk in the area.

The earthquake risk insurance is shared between private insurer Swiss Re and the Taiwan government, making the policy more affordable to residents. This disaster risk reduction approach was developed following the 1999 Chi Chi earthquake in Taiwan.
