Key Farmers Cameroon (KFC) is a non-governmental, non-profit organization with the mission of promoting sustainable organic agriculture and rural development. Due to hardship, acute hunger, child malnutrition and persistent poverty looming in disadvantaged rural communities in Cameroon, KFC has taken the initiative of uniting low income farmers to make the difference in sustainable food production, with the latest technology developed so far by their experts.
The experience gotten from the food crisis in 2008 which almost plunge the nation into a civil war was just to show-case how the food situation in Cameroon was up to. 50 autonomous rural subsistence farmer groups from 25 different villages in the South West Region and beyond came under the umbrella of KFC to share their expertise. Thereafter, KFC began making progress in the areas of food production, natural resource management, water, health, environmental conservation, income-generating activities, micro-finance etc. KFC is run by a board of directors;the management committee oversees the activities of the organization.
The achievements of Key Farmers Cameroon include : Capacity- development project with rural farmer groups – 2005, Maize project with women groups – 2006, Cassava development project with youth and women groups – 2008, Biochar trial project with 36 farmer groups – 2009; Community HIV/AIDS project 2012, Biochar project with GIZ Maroua 2012, Nerica Upland Rice project – 2014, Biochar project with Carleton University and Viresco Solutions Canada, 2015 – 2017, Agro-forestry program – 2016, Solar Food Dryer project – 2016
