Unverified non-profit organisation

In 1997, the US-based FundingFactory developed a fundraising programme for educational and non-profit organisations in the United States. It has a printer cartridge and cell-phone recycling programme, whereby businesses, groups or individuals could register with FundingFactory and choose an educational or non-profit organisation that they intended to support. Then, free of charge, they could send empty cartridges and (used) cell phones to FundingFactory that, via a point system, would be converted into online currency. The suppoprted organisation could then in turn use the online currency to purchase classroom, technical or recreational equipment, e.g. books, software, sports gear etc. FundingFactory recycles, disposes of or sells the cartridges and cell phones that it receives.
