Society for Service to Voluntary Agencies (SOSVA) is a non-profit support service organisation whose main objective is to enhance the effectiveness of field level voluntary agencies (VAs) operating in diverse areas of economic and social development. SOSVA provides training, public education, resource sharing, fund-raising ideas, encouraging the spirit of voluntarism, volunteer services (matching and information), mediation between volunteers and organisations and skill development aimed at the increased success and competence of voluntary agencies on site. One of its main projects is serving as guide for donated medical supplies handled by a US based company, MEDISEND. SOSVA identifies deserving and needy hospitals and facilitates deliveries of medical supplies and equipment in designated regions. The chapter in India has been authorized by the government to import these donated materials free of custom duties.
