Caritas Nicaragua, a member of the confederation of Roman Catholic relief(Caritas Internationalis), promotes development programmes to meet the basic needs of the poorest without creating dependency. Programmes are aimed at community health promotion, HIV/Aids prevention, capacity building and advocacy on human rights and child labor, promoting micro-enterprises, training in sustainable organic agriculture for poor rural communities and environmental conservation. A strong gender focus encourages the active participation of women. The organization also supports families at risk caused by natural or anthropogenic, through capacity building of prevention, mitigation and response to natural disaster.
