Australia Humanitarian Customs Regulations

This document was submitted in response to a questionnaire distributed by Global Hand regarding humanitarian customs information. It provides regulations for importing humanitarian aid into Australia.

Required Documents

  • Import licence (Informal Clearance Document or completed Customs Entry);
  • bill of lading/airway bill;
  • commercial invoice;
  • packing list;
  • certificate of origin.

Prohibited Goods

Goods that might be hazardous to health, goods bearing certain official emblems, designs, misleading markings etc, goods infringeing trademarks, certain goods relating to cultural heritage, goods subject to quarantine control, weapons, narcotic and psychotropic substances, certain animal, marine and plant life and their products.

Tax Exemption

Exemption is given to many goods including certain foodstuffs, some medical aids and appliances and imports qualifying for certain customs duty concessions. In addition, goods which have been donated of a type not manufactured in Australia, may be imported into Australia free of duty.
