The World Health Organisation, the United Nations’ specialised agency for health, was established in 1948. The organisation aims to coordinate international health activities and to help governments improve health services. WHO’s objective, as set out in its Constitution is “the attainment by all peoples of the highest possible level of health.” In Latin America, current WHO priorities focus on HIV/AIDS prevention, violence against women and on the obesity epidemic.
