Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) - El Salvador

Unverified non-profit organisation

FAO was founded in 1945 with a mandate to raise levels of nutrition and standards of living, to improve agricultural productivity, and to better the condition of rural populations. Today, FAO is one of the largest specialised agencies in the United Nations system and the lead agency for agriculture, forestry, fisheries and rural development.

In El Salvador, the FAO takes a multi-sectoral approach to food security, working closely with the government and local organizations and communities to improve agricultural productivity and reduce poverty at the local level. It has also implemented regional projects to improve surveillance and control of animal illnesses such as avian flu and swine fever.
