Medical equipment and supplies available from Australia

General information

Overall description

MedEarth is an Australian environmental and humanitarian charity that recovers usable medical equipment and supplies that hospitals no longer want and would otherwise be destined for landfill and redistributes them to developing countries where they can save and improve lives. Information on how to request supplies is here: https://www.medearth.org/request-supplies/

MedEarth has been operating in Australia since 2013 and in that time has recovered thousands of pieces of medical equipment and medical supplies and consumables. We have redistributed anesthetic machines, x-ray machines, baby monitors, electric beds, patient trolleys, ventilators, sterilizers, needles & syringes, first aid kits, stoma bags, surgical instruments and many more to the most disadvantaged communities throughout the world. We usually work with intermediaries to get each donation to the hospitals or clinics that will benefit.

We have 5 crucial steps in our process – recover, sort, assess, distribute and save lives & the environment.

1- We recover medical supplies and equipment from various health systems that would otherwise be discarded to landfill. This medical items are still safe and usable, but typically is discarded because of insurance regulations, hospital inventory systems, renovations and equipment updates.

2- We receive all medical donations in our warehouse and sort by separating them into individual item types and make them ready for customised orders for our recipients. We store until an appropriate recipient is found.

3- Once potential the recipient is found, we ask them to fill MedEarth application form. We build a customised order based on wish list assessment.
https://www.medearth.org/request-supplies/

4- We fulfill orders of all sizes from small boxes to large cargo containers and make sure that these shipments reach their final destinations across the world.

5- The medical items we save from landfill and send overseas to save & improve lives.

All items are free of charge. We load containers/pack boxes based on our recipient’s wish list. When the application is approved and the wish list is received, we reserve the items we have for the recipient. If we do not have a requested item in our warehouse at that time, we try our best to source it through our contacts and make it ready on shipment day. Unfortunately we are unable to cover transport costs of a shipment from our warehouse to its destination. It is the responsibility of the recipient or their supporting organisation to cover all transport, shipping, freight, customs costs. However we partner with logistic organisations that are very experienced in the transport of medical items such as we provide and they can assist with arranging all shipment logistics at very reasonable rates.

Goods details

Goods description

MedEarth helps protect and enhance our natural environment by working with a range of partners to recover usable medical supplies and equipment that hospitals no longer want and would otherwise be destined for landfill. Australian hospitals generate a large amount of medical solid waste each year. Much of that solid waste is unused medical supplies and equipment. As part of our environmental protection program MedEarth redistributes the medical items we recover to communities in desperate need of them.

ONWUMERE CHUKWUMA says: We are happy to partner with you on this social mission. Here in South south Nigeria and South East, there is an alarming shortage of basic medical equipments such as oxygen tanks, wheelchairs, sterilizers, beds and other basic equipment.
We partner with such hospitals (general hospitals, and local clinics) to cover these gaps that are causing much deaths in our hospitals which are avoidable.
We look forward to a robust partnership with you and open communication channels.

    Yours sincerely,

    Chuma Onwumere
