Kenya Association for Maternal & Neonatal Health - KAMANEH

Unverified non-profit organisation

The Kenya Association for Maternal and Neonatal Health (KAMANEH) was established in 1997 under the Kenya NGOs Coordination Act of 1990 as a national NGO. KAMANEH’s mandate is to save and improve the lives of underprivileged pregnant women, mothers, infants, children and adolescents in urban slums and remote communities of Kenya.

KAMANEH’s projects are to reduce the unacceptably high levels of maternal, child and neonatal mortality and morbidity in Kenya. They also work to prevent mother-to-child transmission of HIV, encouraging breastfeeding and kangaroo care of newborns, promoting sexual and reproductive health rights of women and girls, promoting youth friendly services, promoting good hygiene practices, safe water, and building the capacity of women groups to increase awareness of safe motherhood and child health at the community level.

Mission :

To work with communities and our partners to :

• identify and develop appropriate and effective ways to reduce maternal and newborn mortality and morbidity in Kenya;
• save and improve the lives of pregnant women, mothers, infants, children and adolescents in urban slums and remote communities in Kenya;
• facilitate communities to access quality skilled maternity care;
• promote sexual and reproductive health and rights;
• Support environmental hygiene and sanitation

KAMANEH’s achievements:

Since its inception, KAMANEH has committed itself to working on building a better community for unprivileged women, newborns, children and adolescents through the provision of community-level quality and affordable health care services in partnership with Medical Link Integrated Health Program – MELIHEP, a local NGO in Viwandani slums Nairobi. The organization has also been a strong advocate of sexual and reproductive rights protection and achieved to increase the awareness of sexual and reproductive rights of women and girls in the rural areas of Kisii County in partnership with 12 grassroots women groups as grassroots partners.
