UNICEF is an international aid agency that works with communities and governments in 157 countries for the survival, development and protection of children worldwide, upholding the Convention on the Rights of the Child. The priorities of the programme are children’s health, education, equality and protection, with HIV/AIDS, refugees, infant mortality and girls’ education as areas of particular focus. UNICEF is involved in a variety of programmes including policy analysis, evaluation of practices, dispensing humanitarian aid, research, and monitoring data. Priorities of the Czech branch of the UNICEF include children’s health, education, equality and protection (particularly disabled children), and addressing the nationwide problem of iodine deficit.
