Sports With A Mission -Uganda (SWAM-UG)
Unverified non-profit organisation
SWAM–UG uses football as a community-entry platform to deliver health screening, HIV testing, malaria testing, cervical cancer screening, prostate cancer screening, TB screening, blood donation drives, and health education during football matches and tournaments.1. Core Competencies
These are the specialized skills that make our program work where traditional clinics fail.
•Edutainment Pedagogy: Expertise in designing “Health-Infused Drills.” (e.g., a “Malaria Defense” drill where defenders act as bed nets and the ball is the mosquito).
•Safe-Play Protocol Management: Specialized knowledge in managing physical exertion for players with Sickle Cell Trait (monitoring hydration and preventing “crisis” during play).
•Behavioral Change Communication (BCC): The ability to turn coaches into “Health Champions” who use their influence to break taboos around Cervical Cancer and HIV testing.
•Integrated Service Linkage: A proven system for moving a person from a football pitch to a medical clinic via a formal referral voucher system.
2. Scope of Operation
•Primary Focus: Prevention, screening awareness, and anti-stigma education.
•The “Clinic on the Pitch” Model: Bringing mobile testing units (HIV/TB) and vaccination teams (HPV for Cervical Cancer) directly to tournaments.
•Advocacy & Policy: Working at the district level to ensure sports are recognized as a formal health intervention tool.
•Community Education: Conducting “Genotype Awareness Matches” to educate young couples about Sickle Cell inheritance.
