Federal Medical Center (FMC) Abeokuta is a Federal Tertiary Health Institution that provide acute care health services. The doctors have integrated Hospice and Palliative Medicine into 18 different Wards and Units in the hospital.

The FMC offers postgraduate Residency training in Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Peaditrics, Obstetrics and Gynecology. They also train Student Nurses, Undergraduate Medical Students, Internship trainings for Doctors, Pharmacists and Laboratory Scientists.

The Community Hospice Nigeria(NGO) provides pain management, Hospice Palliative Care and Support to the Geriatrics, Cancer, Stroke, Sickle -cell and HIV/AIDS Patients. The department’s goal is to stand in the gap as an interface for the patients between the hospital and community.

The Federal Medical Center is looking for partners with same idea to championing Community Based Hospice and Palliative Care services in a limited resource settings. The target is to take the services to the grassroots and also raise champions from the pre-existing Primary Health Care Doctors and Nurses that lack pain and palliative care skills. This becomes necessary that palliative care services hitherto for decades are being provided at the tertiary health Institutions. The Community Hospice believe there is a need for a paradigm shift to empower health care professionals at the primary level of care for early recognition, identification and referral of Cancer and other life-threatening disease conditions. It is expected that this model of care would reduce significantly late presentation of patients to specialized facilities.

FMC advocates for and also welcomes partnerships and donations of education, equipment and medication materials needed to realize their dreams and visions at the community level.
