Caritas Internationalis - Gambia Caritas in The Gambia

Unverified non-profit organisation

Caritas Internationalis is a confederation of 162 Catholic relief, development and social service organisations working to build a better world. Caritas provides a beacon of hope for tens of millions of women, men and children in times of hardship and contributes to the development of social justice in times of peace.

Caritas’ mandate includes integral development, emergency relief, advocacy, peace building, respect for human rights and support for proper stewardship of the planet’s environment and resources.
The activities of CaDO include gardening projects, education in animal husbandry and training in environmental protection. The agency also provides training in vocational skills such as embroidery, crochet, childcare, typing and computing to help people to find reliable employment.
In the health sector, CaDO supports the St Lazarus Clinic in Fullabantang, providing running costs and helping the clinic to secure ambulances and medicines. CaDO helps the Government of The Gambia to supply affordable 24-hour healthcare services in the surrounding 35 villages.
The agency also works with the National AIDS Secretariat to provide care for people living with HIV.

A malaria project in the Lower River region helps to raise awareness of the illness and reduce its impact by providing insecticide-treated bed nets.
