The Pastoralist Community Initiative Development and Assistance (PACIDA) is an indigenous, non-sectarian, non-profit making organization registered in Kenya in 2008 under the NGO Coordination Act. PACIDA respects strict political and religious impartiality and operates according to principles of non-discrimination and transparency. PACIDA is non-governmental organization committed to linking emergency, rehabilitation and development in pursue of sustainable pastoralist development. Established in 2008 and based in Marsabit County in Northern Kenya, PACIDA works with marginalised pastoralist and agro-pastoralist populations in the arid and semi-arid areas in Kenya to end poverty and hunger and provide sustainable durable solutions to the challenges affecting the vulnerable communities.

PACIDA seeks to cover the multiple aspects of humanitarian and development crises through a contextualized multidisciplinary approach. Adopting a community-based approach, PACIDA works towards ensuring that the poorest and most vulnerable pastoralist communities have access to the fundamental rights of life, including but not limited to Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WaSH), Sustainable Livelihoods, Peace and Governance, Education and Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change and Adaptations. In particular, PACIDA works with communities whose operations and targeting by other actors is minimal i.e. mobile pastoralists, rural and peri-urban communities with minimal contacts with other agencies.

PACIDA pursues long-term and sustainable humanitarian and democratic development in collaboration with the beneficiary communities, local civil society, government, donors, public institutions and other stakeholders while promoting access to justice, human rights and ensuring environmental sustainability and gender equity. The organization strives to strengthen local capacities and initiatives in all her programming undertakings adopting a community based approach and community capacity building, self-reliance and sustainability.

PACIDA is also committed to Core Humantarian and Accountability Partnerships (HAP) which supports humanitarian accountability and quality management.
