Maine Volunteer Lawyers Project

Unverified non-profit organisation

The Maine Volunteer Lawyers Project (VLP) is a nonprofit organization that coordinates the volunteer efforts of Maine attorneys, community members, and college students to provide free legal help to people of low income throughout the state. They provide free information, brief assistance and pro bono legal representation in civil legal matters to qualifying clients, based on level of income and assets. The organization’s core service areas include family matters such as divorce and parental rights actions; financial matters such as bankruptcy, debt collection, and foreclosure; and other matters such as unemployment, social security disability, and wills. To transform justice from an ideal into a reality for their clients, the VLP depends on volunteers.
