The Legal Aid Society of DC provides free legal assistance to individuals and families with little or no income. They also offer social work services for clients who they represent in their legal case. Legal Aid staff and volunteers assist people who live in DC, Maryland and Virginia and also handle cases that take place in DC. Legal Aid attorneys provide assistance on matters related to eviction and foreclosure prevention, preservation of affordable housing, public housing, domestic violence, child support and custody, a broad range of public benefits and consumer law. Legal Aid staff members represent clients on individual matters and advocate for law reform, engage in appellate litigation and work to reform District agencies that interact with the community.
