Themba
Thembainitiative is a social business committed to tackling educational and social challenges in Cabo Delgado, Mozambique. Its flagship project, Colégio Chuiba, is an inclusive primary school designed to deliver high quality education to 350–400 children in Chuiba Pemba, including those from vulnerable households and resettlement camps affected by displacement.
Core competencies and strengths:
• Education innovation: Smaller class sizes, qualified teachers, and a curriculum that integrates English and digital literacy from early grades.
• Technology integration: Early exposure to computers and IT skills, preparing students for academic and professional success in a digital economy.
• Scholarship management: Providing financial support, transport, and meals to children from poor and displaced families, ensuring equitable access.
• School management capacity: Experienced leadership with over a decade in NGO project development, school construction, teacher support, and community engagement.
• Community impact: Job creation for teachers, administrators, support staff, and local service providers, strengthening resilience and stability.
Scope and capacity: Thembainitiative operates in Cabo Delgado with a focus on education, community development, and humanitarian programming. Colégio Chuiba is designed to be financially self sustaining through affordable tuition and community participation, while donor investment will enable the construction of classrooms, computer labs, and a science laboratory.
