Kenyan Community Support Initiative

Unverified non-profit organisation

Kenyan Community Support Initiative (KCSI) is an NGO based in Kisii, Kenya. KCSI aims to improve life for the poorest people, and also to protect and conserve the environment. The organisation believes that, wherever possible, it is better to give people a way to earn an income, or grow sufficient crops, so that they can support themselves and their families with dignity, rather than constant hand-outs.

KCSI researches and develops simple-to-use, low-technology ways to improve life in rural areas and has currently runs three projects: River Cottage, Kenya, looking at agriculture and food distribution; Scrapheap Challenge, where KCSI designs, builds, tests and improves technology; and the Twiga Children’s Centre, a drop-in centre where orphans and vulnerable children can play and where their welfare can be monitored.
