The World Bank is one of the world’s largest sources of development assistance. It is a development Bank which provides loans, policy advice, technical assistance and knowledge sharing services to low and middle income countries to reduce poverty. The World Bank Group supports the efforts of developing country governments to build schools and health centers, provide water and electricity, fight disease, and protect the environment. In Azerbaijan, its main areas of focus are: improving the quality and transparency of public sector governance, including the maintenance of a stable macroeconomic framework that makes prudent use of oil revenues; supporting sustainable and balanced growth of the non-oil economy; increasing the quality of and access to social services; and improving environmental management and furthering the climate change agenda.
