Beijing Rotary donates wheelchairs to NGOs in China
The US$ 75,000 Wheelchairs Project is one of the five matching grant projects the Beijing Rotary Club is involved in. It’s partner club in this project is the Club of Burlingame, California. The wheelchairs are supplied by the Wheelchair Foundation Shanghai Office and are manufactured at a factory in Shanghai. All wheelchairs have the Rotary wheel and the names of the Beijing and Burlingame Club embroidered at the back.
It is estimated that 1250 wheelchairs will be donated to the following recipients:
- Beijing Disabled Persons Federation (“beijing canlian”)
- No. 2 Welfare Institution in Beijing, a home for adult mentally and physically disabled people
- Community Alliance, an NGO working with old people (some of the wheelchairs will be distributed to community centres such as the Hepingli Center and some to poorer regions in the outskirts of Beijing as well as Inner Mongolia)
- Henan Civil Affairs Bureau (most wheelchairs to homes for people with disabilities, some to a community hospital)
- Khamaid, an NGO active in West Sichuan, Kanding and environment.
- Tianjin TEDA Volunteer Organization
