Second Harvest Japan (formerly known as Food Bank Japan)

Food Bank Japan was approved as Japan’s first legally incorporated non-profit food bank in 2002. They changed their name to Second Harvest Japan (2HJ) in 2004. Second Harvest Japan distributes food to soup kitchens, orphanages, the elderly, emergency shelters, women’s shelter, single mothers, the homeless, migrant workers, and many others. They partner with restaurants and food services operations who would be willing to donate food and find more volunteers who can help deliver the food. Their activities toward creating a viable food banking network and infrastructure for food security in more communities in Tokyo and Japan include their hot meal program, harvest pantry, food banking, and advocacy development.
