A social partnership for transforming waste into resources.

Every day tons of food and fresh fruits and vegetables are disposed of by supermarkets and retail shops. This happens because products remain unsold or because they are about to expire. In the same territory, there are many non-profit organisations that offer assistance to disadvantaged people and families and that have to spend a lot of money on meals.

The main object of the partnership is transforming waste into resources. It allows retail shops and supermarkets that produce a significant quantity of unsold (or close to expiration) products daily to donate them to non-profit bodies that need resources to support their activities. After a first experimental stage during 2005, the project Last Minute Market, conceived by the Faculty of Agriculture of the University of Bologna, has been realised through the supermarket E.Leclerc-Conad in Modena in collaboration with Nordiconad. As a result, food is being delivered to about 350 people daily
