Lighten a Life projects in India

Requested by

Lighten A Life

Who are you trying to help? What issue are you trying to address?

As the name suggest, we believe in keeping our efforts simple yet effective. Helping people in need is indeed a kind gesture. A heart filled with love for the suffering is what it takes; and here, we are dedicated to aid people who are struggling with life-threatening, debilitating or chronic illnesses or those facing tremendous hardships.

Keeping this in mind, we are a group of ‘self-realizers’ who have joined hands to pause for a cause and to help ‘Lighten A Life’ in the true sense. We are neither preachers nor seekers. We are merely ‘doers’ doing our little bit to make the world a little bit more beautiful and bright. The foundation has been established focusing on promoting and encouraging education. We deliver medical care, humanitarian aid, and holistic development programs to people in need.

What is your project and how will it help?

1) Feed A Life:
Every 3.6 seconds one person dies of starvation. Usually it is a child under the age of 5. We all know that in parties/weddings/get-togethers, there lies a lot of food (raw or cooked) which gets wasted. In such case, rather than discarding it, our team will serve it to the infants, poor and street children. Please note that we shall distribute only untouched food and not the leftovers.

2) Educate A Life:
Statistics reveal that India has 17 million child laborers who start working from the age of 5. The time that should be spent over enjoying and learning about life is rather spent in cleaning utensils and serving teas. ‘Lighten A Life’ is getting associated with few schools in rural areas providing support for free education from the donations received.

3) Old Age Home:
The aging population is growing at an alarming rate. The estimated rapid increase of the elderly population in India (projected to reach 95 million by 2011 and 120 million by 2014), means the issues of the elderly can no longer be solely a family concern. 75% of these elderly reside in rural areas, one third of them are below the poverty line and 90% of them are from the informal employment sector -implying no pension or other social security support. It is worth mentioning that in India, 33% of these elderly live in areas vulnerable to natural disaster. In simple terms the greatest challenge ahead is formulating appropriate and customized responses to “caring for the needs of the elderly”
