Help HIV/AIDS affected households through micro-credit in Uganda

Requested by

Foundation for People's Welfare Nakalembe

Who are you trying to help? What issue are you trying to address?

We are trying to help HIV/AIDS affected women and youth headed households in the Rakai & Lwengo Districts to improve their resource management and develop their ability to generate income. This will reduce their vulnerability.

We want to do this through vigorous training of the beneficiaries. We also want to create credit facilities.

We are an NGO that was set up to help women and families affected by HIV/AIDS and thus left vulnerable and without the ability to support themselves.

What is your project and how will it help?

The project strategies include capacity building, sustainable resource management, and the creation of income generating opportunities for the most vulnerable HIV/AIDS affected women and youth headed households who are constrained by both financial and material support.

The project seeks to increase employability of 875 HIV/AIDS affected women and youth through a revolving credit fund. We intend to create 25 groups each composed of 35 people who will implement their individual projects based on peer support and involvement that will encourage personal creativity and long term viability of the projects and activities.

Further details of the project, and a description of our activities to date can be found in the attached document.

How can other people partner with you on your project?

Domestic items and services are required for the beneficiaries during the training period. Preliminary meetings with community members & identification of beneficiaries require combined efforts from other stake holders who include are but not limited to; Local Community leaders, opinion leaders, religious leaders, Donors, volunteers and other affiliate members of the organization.

The project will perform better with more capitalization from other donors and with time, we intend to contact other donors for serving a greater number of vulnerable households.

Please detail the resources that you need.
