Skill development training for Kushtia youth, Bangladesh

Requested by

Integrated Development Forum (IDF)

Who are you trying to help? What issue are you trying to address?

Geographically Kushtia is located in Southwestern part of Bangladesh. The proposed district is 270 kilometers away from the capital city of Dhaka. More than 70% people are living below the poverty line. 40% of the total populations are illiterate and many of the young people are unemployed. Rather than going to school, children are working for their families due to poverty. Underprivileged youth are getting involved into drugs & anti-societal activities. All these are happening because of poverty and unemployment. Many of our people are unskilled and due to competitive job market they cannot find a job.

What is your project and how will it help?

- Project duration : One year (July, 2013 to 30 June 2014)

- Background of the project:

To solve this problem, there is an immediate need required to provide Technical Education for the orphans, unemployed & underprivileged youth. Once their skills get developed, automatically their access to job market will be ensured.

The proposed project will benefit 400 underprivileged youth through receiving skills training under 6 months on five types of jobs such as:
- electrical
- mobile servicing
- tailoring & embroidery
- refrigerator and air conditioning repair
- driving

These skills-training courses will be conducted by local management under the supervision of IDF. Proper and timely supervision is a must to ensure quality education.

To determine what progresses have been made in the project, IDF will undertake routine monitoring and supervision. For overall management there will be a sub-committee. This sub-committee will consist of experts on the respective trades and the officers of IDF. This sub-committee will meet from time to time to know whether the aims and objectives of the program have been achieved.
