Training of poverty ridden rural women in India
Requested by
The Women Shristi AssociationWho are you trying to help? What issue are you trying to address?
The Women Shristi Association is an NGO based in West Bengal, with regional office in Kolkata. We work with the rural women who are victims of poverty and prey to social evils such as prostitution and trafficking. We intend to train these women in tailoring, handicraft, jute works, computer skills etc so they may be able to earn their own livelihood and be self-reliant.
What is your project and how will it help?
We have a land with a two storey building on it. We are planning to use the upper floor for the purpose of establishing this training centre while the first floor will be converted into a charitable health clinic.
After completing the training these women will be able to produce their own products for which we would provide them the raw materials and help them to market and sell out their finished goods in local & city market and thereby help them earn their own livelihood.
How can other people partner with you on your project?
Other people who are willing to associate with this project are most welcome. We would especially call people dealing with handicraft and hosiery goods and such others to join hands with us so that it may become easy for these trained women to sell their finished production. We also welcome exporters.
Please detail the resources that you need.
Initially the amount that we need is USD 28.000 to set up the required machines and training materials.
