Support Orphanage Development Centre in Congo

Requested by

Who are you trying to help? What issue are you trying to address?

We are helping orphans and children from poor families to attend school in order to have a brighter future.

After many years of war many children were orphaned and no one there to help them. In 2006, we decided to start a Centre for orphans at Rumangabo (45 miles from Goma) Fifty percent of the population here are children and twenty percent are orphans and very few have access to education. Thousands of children suffer from malnutrition, disease and ravages of neglect.

Currently there are 157 orphans in our Centre .The number of children is great and the center has many needs. Some of these orphans live with their grandparents, relatives but many are neglected and used as servants, domestic workers. It is not unusual that the children are abused by their relatives. The children who do not have any other option decide to go into the streets where many of them become thieves, prostitutes and drug addicts with high risk of attracting HIV/AIDS.

What is your project and how will it help?

The centre provides clothes, books, shoes, and school fees. We also give the children basic medical care. We also run projects helping poor people to start a small business, for example providing money to the widows for them to do business or farming projects for them to sustain life.

Our school now has official papers and the first orphans in the Centre will be able to pass the national exams this year for them to get a certificate which will allow them to continue to secondary school.

We have started to build more classrooms and have now four classrooms built already, but we lack benches and desks.

We also plan to start a small farming project connected to the school.
Our dream is to have a Centre where the children can study and play in good conditions. Please help us to help these children.

How can other people partner with you on your project?

People can partner with us by providing funding to the Centre.

Please detail the resources that you need.

Our need is money for food, books, clothes, shoes, medical care, and salaries to the teachers.

Our yearly budget is estimated to USD 50,000 but every donation is warmly welcomed.
