United Global Volunteers InternationalWho are you trying to help? What issue are you trying to address?
United Global Volunteers International is a non profit volunteer networking organization, which has been active for several years. Community organization were experiencing scarcity and lack of professional expertise to run community projects because the available experts demanded pay that was beyond the community organizations ability. While this was happening there was a mass of undergraduate students trekking in search of attachments and practicum in aid to fulfil their courses to graduate.
We mentor children in slums and rural community homes, serving to make community life better. We exchange information with several universities giving students 3 months to serve community organizations and fulfil individual career at the same time. This development and progress of networking interns with different placements has grown from Kenya to East Africa community which led other forums to emerge globally. We have received many volunteers from Africa, Canada, Europe, America and other parts of the world. Today the majority of community centres have experienced as volunteers has offered free mentorship, social work, nursing and other services to communities across free of charge.
What is your project and how will it help?
United Global Volunteers International has grown to emerge among the most significant organization in offering expertise on conservation, charity work, mentorship, social work, volunteerism and other services. We have run global programs on both communities and media enlightening the world of how simple human service can impact global change bringing volunteers from across the globe to different centres.
This service is a drop in sea comparing with the hundreds of undergraduates applying for opportunities and the spreading of community organizations with thousands of children seeking mentors located at different interior rural communities and crowded slums. Though there are many challenges experienced today, transport has been the greatest obstacle to effectiveness and success of the program as desired.
How can other people partner with you on your project?
We have done it at Eldoret, Kajiado, Kibera, Mukuru kwa Njenga, Kayole, machakos among others by hiring vans for our projects, we can offer the community better service with simple vans for picking the volunteers and dropping them at different centres .
People can partner with us by helping us with funding for one or several vans to help us get around the obstacle of transportation for our staff and volunteers.
Please detail the resources that you need.
Our hope is for this project to grow the humanitarian and volunteerism spirit and culture towards poverty eradication through exchange of service. In order to fulfil this vision, we need you to sponsor us with staff van / volunteer van.
