Care for children with disabilities in Kyrgyzstan

Requested by

Adonai Foundation

Who are you trying to help? What issue are you trying to address?

We care for children with limited possibilities from our city in the age of two to twenty five years. The disabilities of all children are different, but basically they have physical limitations. We also care for their families, who – because of having a disabled child – are often left alone.

What is your project and how will it help?

Every year we organize one or two camps for these children, where they come together with their mothers or relatives. There they have heard about God.
By law of our country we can not talk openly to our children about the living God, therefore we use the Old Testament stories to convey them the love of God. But these four or five days are not enough that they might know God closer, build relationship with Him. Our dream is to hold monthly meetings with the children throughout the year, where we would like to do activities, contests, in order to let these children become aware of their abilities and talents. In addition, we would like to create different classes, so that children can learn different skills and professions. In the future they could get at least some income for themselves. We already have free sewing courses for mothers of these children. Ten – twelve women learn to sew, do patchwork, different crafts and then sell products and replenish their budget.
In the past we organized three to five camps for these children. Unfortunately, every year we have to reduce the number of camps, as it is harder to find donors.

How can other people partner with you on your project?

We are looking for potential sponsors, who could become a sponsor for a child for a long time. Because state aid to such children is very small, not even enough for medicines.
In addition, we are looking for long term partners to help children in other villages as well and hold camps and meetings in which they can be teached a profession.
We would be pleased to receive goods to use in the teaching classes for the children and their family.

Please detail the resources that you need.

For these goals and objectives, we need computers, toolset for the carpenter, tools for the furniture, sewing machine for shoes – to instruct the boys for different professions. And for girls and for moms – sets hairstyling tools, tool kits for making earrings and bracelets, sewing kit (thread, needles, scissors, fabric, yarn, needles, hoop, embroidery threads, knives for cutting fabrics, etc.), as well as sewing, embroidery or оverlock machines.
And for monthly meetings with these children, we need toys, books, puzzles, balls, balloons, stationery. We also need a wheelchairs with automatic control. For different ages. Soft mattresses. Linens.
