Improve computer literacy in rural Cameroon

Requested by

NAVTI Foundation Cameroon Verified non-profit organisation

Who are you trying to help? What issue are you trying to address?

The DUNGRI – Computer Center Project is a project designed by the Computer Department of the NAVTI FOUNDATION, CAMEROON aimed at improving computer literacy, by creating Community Computer Centers in each town with above 5.000 people in Bui Division in Cameroon.

We shall offer computer training programs and Internet connection to rural communities including farmers, students and women.

We shall create centers in Tobin, Mbiame and Jakiri towns which we feel are still lacking behind in this domain. These towns constitute less then 1% of the towns with a population above 8.000 people in Cameroon.

We created the Computer and Information Technology project because:

- Ministry of Higher Education in Cameroon report ranks the North West region and West region as having high illiteracy rates because of the high prevalent poverty level that hinders parents from sending their children to school.

- Computer literacy has been introduced in the national public examinations in Cameroon

- Computer literacy level stands at less then 15% of the population of these regions.

- High fees are charge by the existing computer centers in neighboring regions (about US$30 to learn 1 program – for instance Microsoft Excel) not easy for less privileged kids.

What is your project and how will it help?
