Home and care for students project in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso
Requested by
Eglise Protestante Evangélique du Burkina FasoWho are you trying to help? What issue are you trying to address?
This project is about giving a home and support to students in difficulty in Ouagadougou KADIOGO Province (Burkina Faso). The project is an outreach activity of the Evangelical Protestant Church (EPA).
Most young people (students) leave home after high school to pursue their higher education studies at Ouagadougou universities and other higher education colleges. The city also recorded other types of young people (students) who were excluded from school in their locality.
The vulnerable young people who come to study come from semi-urban and rural areas, and do not know anyone in town. The hosting infrastructure and cost is a real problem in Ouagadougou and the university does not have enough housing for students.
We recall that in late July 2013 when the students were expelled from university campuses, they were forced to meet and sleep in the street because they did not have a place to stay.
The food also is a daily problem for many students.
What is your project and how will it help?
Education is a driving force in our world and specifically in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso. Although primary schools are located in more rural areas, secondary and higher education institutions are located in semi-urban areas such as Ouagadougou, Bobo-Dioulasso, Koudougou…
The more a student progresses through his studies, he is made to approach an urban center. Research also shows that a student at a higher level has high chances to settle in these cities such as Ouagadougou. This is the seat of universities, colleges of education such as school of health, school of teachers, and many training centers.
Since 2003 a shelter was established in renting apartments to house students and students from semi- urban and rural areas, homeless and without funding from the parents.
Currently we are at the end of our forces. The project takes into account housing, food , and health for the students.
A project team is responsible for implementing the program. It will also identify the criteria for selecting beneficiaries, the operation of the center and all activities within the scope of this program. The project team will make a presentation on the implications and responsibilities of stakeholders.
The administration and technical services, they will be asked if needed to attend orientation sessions and validation reports representation.
