Micro credit funds to support Only Girl Child Families in India

Requested by

Women's Emancipation and Development Trust

Who are you trying to help? What issue are you trying to address?

Women in India still face socially sanctioned violence and injustice, be it at work or at home. They generally do not enjoy the respectable social status as men, and are often the victims of violence. Constitutionally sanctioned rights are denied and if their rights are brutally violated, they could not find justice. Several legislations have been made to address this social imbalance. However, there are many miles to go until gender equity is achieved. Female feticide, infanticide, dowry deaths and early marriage are still common in Indian society.

Owing to our series of campaign and motivation, more than three hundred families come forward for prevention of female infanticide and adopted permanent family planning after having only two girl children. They do not want a male child even after they forced by their relatives. By this mean they accepted the gender equity and are satisfied with two children whether male or female.

We try to address their socio economic issues through this project.

What is your project and how will it help?

Our project aims to educate and empower the only girl children families in Chellampatti Region, and giving them micro credit.

We try to provide awareness education to 100 families and to provide micro credit to 10 families to purchase a milk cow to each family which will improve their family income which lead to healthy children get education.

These 10 families will repay the loan in 10 installments which then goes to one new family by next month onwards thus the fund will be sustain and reach to other poor families.

How can other people partner with you on your project?

Social leaders, friendly NGOs and local veterinary doctors will support the project through resource person and advise for animal rearing.
