Who are you trying to help? What issue are you trying to address?

Education is a fundamental right for every human being. It constitutes the key factor to poverty reduction and sustainable human development. The State has the primary responsibility to provide basic good-quality education. However, this is not the case in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Due to an acute socio-economic crisis social and educational infrastructures are weakened and permeated by a lack of resources, the schooling system,in particular, it’s in a really precarious condition.
Having access to decent quality education is (for the majority of the people) too expensive; it is therefore very unlikely that families invest in it. As the incredibly high number of unemployed generates financial oppression (…) every year numerous young people leave school without a diploma of secondary education. In the contemporary world is essential being able to read and write. Providing all these low-skilled groups an opportunity to continue to learn and, in so doing, emancipate themselves it’s a national mission.

What is your project and how will it help?

This is an opportunity offered by alternative education of the city of Kinshasa to meet the needs of young people and adults who have not had the chance to go to school or have dropped out, so that they can learn basics literacy, typing and computer skills.

This simple but essential practical knowledge constitutes a second chance for them to get a recognized qualification and in so doing to avoid social exclusion and economic misery.

Expected results of the training:
- Know how to read, write and calculate;
- Being able to type;
- Being able to handle confidently the basic programs of a computer (Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Access, Publisher, PowerPoint …);

The project will last 12 months and after the training the students will have the patent or certificate recognized by the national authorities such as the Ministry of National Education.
