Volunteers for the promotion of computer and literacy skills in Uganda

Who are you trying to help? What issue are you trying to address?

Aims of Maendeleo foundation are:
1) to provide computing equipment to local schools, public libraries and university’ centers for lifelong learning located in rural areas of Uganda.
2) to teach children and adults from poor communities basic computer skills which will allow them:
a) to have higher chances to succeed both academically and in their future working career
b) to have access to essential (on-line) information for their life and wellbeing.

What is your project and how will it help?

In order to reach remote rural areas of Uganda which don’t support standard computer installations the foundation has created special Mobile Solar Computer Classrooms.

More in details the project consists in:

- Providing up-to-date and easy to use computers together with literacy skills to primary and secondary students.

- Improving teachers ‘computer and business skills and to give them an effective insight about the benefits of the use of computers in schools.

- Providing an effective computer training to librarians of rural communities’ libraries and to help them to get computers for their libraries.

-Training the most vulnerable community groups such as women, farmers, youth in computer skills, especially information access and networking, to contribute to their emancipation.

-Directly installing and connect to the web computers and internet in schools, learning centers and libraries.

How can other people partner with you on your project?

- We are looking for volunteers willing to assist the training team and help us to grow our project.

- Privates or companies able to help us to obtain computers to install in communities and schools.

- Project partners that are happy to fund specific aspects of the project
