Help orphans in Nairobi slums to access education
Requested by
Ngando Universal CentreWho are you trying to help? What issue are you trying to address?
Ngando Universal Centre (NUC) is a community based organisation that supports orphans and poor children in the Ngando slums. The Centre intends to renovate and expand its premises to accommodate more children who are poor and suffering. We are currently running a primary school and a day care centre for children between the ages of 2 and 13.
Many children of school going age are illiterate and are also affected by HIV/AIDS. We started the care centre more than 5 years ago, to help these children and now want to expand our ability to offer them help, including food, education and shelter.
We currently operate in rented premises. Initially it was a hall then we partitioned it so that we currently have six rooms.
What is your project and how will it help?
Our project is the expansion of existing facilities. The project will benefit needy children because we will be able to provide education and shelter, clothing and other equipment to enable the children to undertake vocational training.
We want to assist over 2500 needy children, young people and families to improve their environment, enroll in school, and encourage and train others to initiate income generating community based projects.
The project is designed to enable poor children to learn, generate incomes and offer exchange programmes for the needy in the community. Talent tapping and improvement will be an added advantage in our strategy to improve the social welfare of the poor.
Please contact us to learn more about our programmes.
How can other people partner with you on your project?
We encourage volunteers from diverse fields to assist. Our constitution and operational guidelines allow us to partner with any organisation that has similar objectives and development programmes. Individuals, corporates have the opportunity to partner with us.
To seek for donor support that will help us in the project thereby implementing the intended project, equip it with relevant support incentives as well as administration in regard to the urgent needs on the ground.
