Bahamas Humanitarian Customs Regulations

This document was submitted in response to a questionnaire distributed by Global Hand regarding humanitarian customs information. It provides regulations for importing humanitarian aid into Bahamas.

Required Documents

For clearance of commercial imports entering the Bahamas via air and sea cargo/freight, a completed ’’entry’’ (four copies) is required. Imports by sea are released to the importer on presentation of the forms processed at Customs house, Thompson Blvd. For goods by air, entry forms are presented to the customs officer in the Air express building at Nassau International Airport. Similar facilities also exist at Out Island ports of entry. A formal entry is required for clearance of commercial shipments imported via parcel post, air or sea. Goods imported by parcel post with a value of less than $500 require no entry.

Tax Exemption

Certain goods may be imported exempt from customs duty. These include all goods imported with the prior approval of the Minister of Finance of the Bahamas by a charitable organisation to be used exclusively for charitable purposes are exempt from customs duty.
