Shipping 40ft container with 400 donated bikes to Mexico
Requested by
Bicycles for HumanityWho are you trying to help? What issue are you trying to address?
“Bicycles for Humanity” is trying to help poor Mexican children by giving them bikes to get to school. In addition, giving the adults a way to improve their life by giving them bikes to get empowered. They can get water, go to work, get to health clinics and so much more.
What is your project and how will it help?
This project in called “Bicycles for Humanity”.
Giving people bicycles will improve their lives. It is the gift of mobility. Allows people to travel greater distances, transport materials and water and helps bring items to market. 100% of all donations are used to get bicycles into the hands of those who need them.
We have 400 bicycles ready for donation to Mexico but we need funding for a 40ft container ( or donation in-kind of used 40ft container) which will later be turned into a Bicycle Empowerment Center (BEC). Here they fix bikes and help individual stay mobile. We would need a location to put the container so we would need a partner in Mexico willing to donate a small piece of land to do this.
- The local NGO in Mexico also provides training a few individuals on how to repair bikes (Bike Mechanics course).
How can other people partner with you on your project?
People can partner with “Bicycles for Humanity” by helping us with funding for container and shipping.
- Bike shops can partner with us to help supply bike parts. They can contact the B4H web page and their is a contact site.
Please detail the resources that you need.
The resources we need are as follows:
- The cost of a 40ft container US$ 4,000
- The cost to ship the container US$12,000
We do not need bikes. We have them donated to us already. We need the funding for shipping and the purchase of the container. We would also accept the lease of a container to ship bikes.

Keith Oberg says: Hello,
I work for Bikes for the World, a similar organization, and am curious as to what chapter of Bicycles for Humanity this is and what experience you have had sending bikes to Mexico in the past. We have previously worked with one chapter of Bicycles for Humanity to facilitate a shipment. You can contact me at kaila@bikesfortheworld.org.
