The Environmental Protection and Humanitarian Agency (EPHA) was established in 2007 by a group of 15 volunteers with a mission to contribute on protecting Tanzania’s vast and wonderful environment and to improve the living standard of the poorest population groups in Kigoma/Ujiji Municipal and Tanzania as a whole. Currently the organization has 48 members (among them 28 are women and 20 are men) and it assists over 1250 people.

The main aim of the organization is to see all vulnerable and disadvantaged population groups, including women, girls, children, orphans, widows, elderly and disabled around Kigoma Town and the rest of Tanzania being free from absolute poverty, ignorance and violence that value equality, respect, rights and participation in the development through basic education, environmental conservation, human rights education and protection, health promotion, and economic self-reliance advancement.

Since its establishment, EPHA is running Environmental conservation, Eco-Tourism and Human rights programs which focuses on the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), the Declaration of Violence Against Women (DEVAW) and the Convention of Children Rights (CRC) and positive norms and customs to protect these most vulnerable.

All activities of the organization are being conducted throughout Kigoma/Ujiji Municipality and within various suburbs, villages, wards, and divisions located in Kigoma Rural District Council and other parts of Tanzania through the Head Quarter of the organization located at Kigoma/Bangwe Ward street in Kigoma/Ujiji Municipal, the NGO expands and develops those activities in six major parts orientations, such as; – Female education support, – Sustainable Agricultural and livestock, – Environmental scheme research, – Legal Aid, – Human Rights – and Environmental Protection Club (EPC).
