Request for voluntary work, materials and funding to address 4 humanitarian issues seriously affected communities in Uganda

Requested by

Community Focus Uganda

Who are you trying to help? What issue are you trying to address?

We address 4 problems;

1. There is high rate of HIV-positive persons in Uganda. Instruction and training on management of malnutrition and HIV/AIDS nutrition linkages and care is thus of great importance. While The Ministry of Health has now produced a comprehensive HIV, nutrition guidelines and integrated management of training curriculum, it does not currently feature in most Government health staff training curriculum. Besides, the technical capacity at health facilities is low.

2. Years Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) spent in camps have undermined the modern transfer of skills related to agriculture; families have returned to overgrown land often with little knowledge and barely no improved tools or seeds with which to produce food. There is therefore a huge and pressing need to supply basic inputs and skills for small-scale high-nutrient agriculture and business development.

3. Education especially for girl child remains an elusive reality in Uganda despite many efforts. There are many contemporary challenges affecting education in schools which is vital to be addressed at this point in time.

4. The low status of women and poverty appear to be the most imposing challenges to adequate health care and attention to women’s issues. Relevant policies often do not extend to the most marginalized women, those who live and work in the most rural areas. It is precisely such a place where a small amount of education for Cancer awareness could have a huge impact

What is your project and how will it help?

To address the 4 above problems, we would carry out 4 corresponding projects.

2.2.Implement nutrition education and demonstration sessions at peer-support HIV groups
2.3.Implement household vegetable gardening and food preservation projects
2.4.Implement business skills training and in-kind support for group micro-projects

3.1.Provide scholastic materials to girl child
3.2.Skills training on income generating activities and provision of start up capital.
3.3.Training and mentoring on savings skills-VSLA methodology and behaviour change

4.1.Training about the predisposing factors and prevention of cervical cancer
4.2.Referring the mothers for screening and treatment
