Condoms and bore hole drilling machines needed for HIV campaign and drinkable water program in Nigeria

Requested by

Ewekoro Progressive Forum

Who are you trying to help? What issue are you trying to address?

EPF was established in 2008 as a critical response to fill a developmental vacuum in the Ewekoro Local Government, Ogun State,Nigeria.
We offer community development assistance to those at the grass root level in Nigeria. Many people lack drinkable water, and some reports suggest that less than one fifth of this population have access to clean pipe borne drinking water. Capacity development in the area of clean water supply will go a long way in improving the health of the local government population. Drinking untreated water can result in several drawbacks for the individuals, communities and ultimately for the nation.

We also to embark on HIV programmes to educate youth in the villages about sexually transmitted diseases and how to prevent them. In Ewekoro, the HIV prevalence rate among adults ages between 15–49 is 0.9 percent which is very high considering that Ogun State has 20 local government areas. Nigeria has the second-largest number of people living with HIV, with youth and young adults in Nigeria particularly vulnerable to HIV, the reason EPF is embarking on this campaign is to work with partners so as to reduce the spread of HIV in Ewekoro.

What is your project and how will it help?

Borehole water project: This will improve access to clean drinking water, thereby improving the overall health of residents of the local government.

Campaign on HIV, counselling, support and self-help groups: It will reduce the spread of HIV by educating people on the inherent risk of the virus, how they can prevent it and provide support for sufferers of the virus. By implementing the project, we hope to reduce overall infection rate and ensure information is readily available to those who need it.

How can other people partner with you on your project?

Other people can partner with us on this project by mobilising support materials for our organisation. By working with partners who can provide logistical support, our tasks will be made much easier due to potential increased capacity in service delivery.

Please detail the resources that you need.

Some of the resources that would be needed for this project are: Condoms and contraceptive materials, Water pumping machine and logistical support.
