The Defum Human Rights Association (DHRA ) is an independent non-governmental, nonpolitical and non profit making organization, which is registered under the Trustees incorporation Act of Malawi.

DHRA was established on 13th June 2007 and get registered as an NGO on 08th February 2013. Its birth was in response to an increasing need and demand to address civil and human rights issues in the country. DHRA therefore strives to address the entire range of international recognized human rights such as political, civil, economic, social and cultural.

MISSION

DHRA mission is to contribute towards the protection, promotion and consolidation of good governance human rights and gender equality in Malawi by empowering rural and urban communities to increase awareness of and exercise their rights through research, education, advocacy and networking in order to relize human development.

CORE PROGRAMMES

DHRA contribute towards the realization of this mission through three core programmes. That are carried out under public awareness and community Empowerment.

These are the programmes it delivers
1. Community safety and Empowerment
2. Human Rights and HIV /AIDS
3. Training and public Awareness

Through these three core programmes. DHRA is embarked in several activities including outreach civic education campaigns through drama, workshops, radio program, debates, publications and other education materials, training in democracy, human rights and research capacity building and networking targeting media and art groups, civil servants and teachers, students, parliamentarians among others, conducting social studies, producing quarterly newsletters and lobbying and advocacy on issues of national interest such as specific parliamentary bills and policy for reform , providing legal aid and advice to vulnerable groups and many other activities.
