The Health Home Initiative (HHI) - UGANDA

The Health Home Initiative Abbreviated as (HHI) is a non-governmental organization that was registered in 2011 with Registration No 8771 under the NGO Act statute cap 113 of Uganda. HHI operates country wide with a major goal of contributing to securing the greatest and possible improvement in health and livelihoods of vulnerable rural women, youths, children and elderly in Uganda.

HHI is envisioned to realize a Healthy Community for Poverty Reduction and Development. The strategic approaches to community development include community capacity building and Strengthening, Community based action, family and community axes among others. HHI’s mandate is to improve health care by making it accessible to vulnerable and marginalized groups including children, women, the elderly and the youth through collaborative, family and community centered approaches.

HHI was etablished based on the premise that rural vulnerable women and children are far challenged with and by limited or no access to health care and socio-economic services in Uganda.

HHI’s response in emergency situation in refugee settlements in Uganda was endorsed by the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) – Refugee department and an M.O.U to that effect was signed with the aim of providing Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR) through providing Medical physical rehabilitation and complimentary services in all Refugee settlements and host communities in Uganda .

Through the Public Health Desk (PHD), HHI extends preventive and curative health services with a trickle down effect to the community in her catchments area with particular emphasis

HHI focuses on promoting gender equality and empowerment to participate in meaningful initiatives with the ultimate goal of improving the livelihoods of targeted beneficiaries. The organisation has the Board of Directors which is the apex and supreme policy making body with gender dynamics encompassed.

HHI membership is open to all sundry to include community members who subscribe to the vision, mission and objectives of the organization.
