School for children with disabilities in Tamil Nadu, India

Requested by

Sudar Academy and Charitable Trust

Who are you trying to help? What issue are you trying to address?

Every human being has a responsibility to help others who are less privileged. People should extend a helping hand to light up the lives of the less fortunate. Everyone has a place in the world and should should be given an opportunity to develop his or her potential. People with different abilities should be given their place in the world. This will, in due course, lead to the decrease in social differences.

The Sudar Academy and Charitable Trust was started with such an aim: to educate and emancipate less fortunate people.

At present we provide free education and food to approximately thirty students. We would like to extend this programme. We are about to start an orphanage, an old age home and a widow rehabilitation centre, but we need money to do all these things.

What is your project and how will it help?

Our project is helping children with disabilities through the provision of food and education. We have qualified teachers who teach Tamil, English, Mathematics and General Knowledge.

We pick up the students from their home, and provide nutritious food throughout the day (see below for details)

11:00am – Health mix/ Milk with honey/ Juice according to the time table.
01:00pm – Hygienic food as lunch and also provide mineral water.
Monday, Wednesday and Friday
03:00pm – Egg.)

We also provide uniforms for the children and an identity card. We also have a physiotherapist who provides the physical exercises needed for each student. Yoga and Meditation practice is also provided.

We provide games like carom, chess and throw ball. It refreshes their minds and bodies.

We also provide general education, and some extracurricular activities like drawing, singing and music to develop their talents. We also provide job oriented practice for the students.
